AK bound
After weeks of planning we are off to AK May 3 - ALB-ORD-SEA-ANK. We are renting an RV for a month to cover the area with ROADS in southeast AK. Our first destination will be the Kenai Peninsula visiting Seward and Homer. The Kachemak Shorebird Festival in Homer is May 7-10. This will give me a chance to study shorebirds which we do not normally see in VT! or in breeding plumage! or in large numbers to study! The day time highs there this week have been in the 30s! Contrast that to a temperature in VT April 25, of 89!!!!
After Homer we'll be on the road until June 4. We then fly to NOME for 5 days (birding priority!). We'll then fly to Juneau via ANK for a couple of days, jump on the southbound ferry through the Inside Passage to Prince Rupert, Canada. We'll catch the Skeena rail across CA to Jasper where we'll rent a car and work our way S. in the Canadian Rockies to Banff, Calgary and then fly home June 24.
